About TherapistAtlas
TherapistAtlas is an independent directory of licensed therapists. We build every listing from public records — the federal NPI registry and state licensing boards — and we verify each license before publishing. The directory is free for the people searching it, and therapists never pay to be included.
Why we built this
Finding a therapist is hard at exactly the moment when hard things feel hardest. The big directories have grown crowded with ads, referral networks, and profiles that route your call through a company's intake team instead of to the person you picked. We wanted something simpler and more honest — a directory where every profile belongs to a real, currently licensed practitioner, and where the phone number on the page rings their office.
How the directory works
Every listing starts from public data. The federal National Provider Identifier registry tells us who practices where, and each state's licensing board tells us whether their license is active. We only publish practitioners whose licenses we could verify, and each profile shows you the license number and registration period so you can check our work yourself.
Because listings come from public records, a practitioner doesn't have to do anything to appear here. Therapists can claim their profile for free to keep details current and add things public records can't tell us, like insurance, fees, and telehealth availability.
Independence
TherapistAtlas isn't owned by a therapy platform, an insurance company, or a venture-backed startup with a growth target. We plan to earn revenue the transparent way, by offering therapists optional paid upgrades to their own profiles. Placement in search results is never for sale, and we don't sell consumer data — you can read the details in our privacy policy.
Where we are today
We're starting with New York State and expanding from there. If you spot an error in a listing, we want to know — contact us and we'll fix it or take the listing down.
